Feeling overwhelmed isn't a weakness. It's information. When everything feels like too much at once, we tend to treat it as a personal failing, proof that we can't cope. It isn't. Overwhelm is simply a signal that the demands in front of you have outgrown your capacity in this moment. Nothing more. Here's what's actually happening: emotions are arriving faster than your mind can sort them. Sadness, frustration, and anxiety all at once, with no clear sense of which one to deal with first. And your body joins in. The racing heart, the shallow breathing, the scattered thoughts. Your nervous system responds to a flood of feeling much like it would to a physical threat, which makes thinking clearly even harder. Many of the working women I coach describe it the same way: they know something needs their attention, but they can't find a starting point. When you feel that wave rising, don't try to think your way out. Ground yourself first: → Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can hear, 3 you can touch. → Press both feet firmly into the floor and notice the support beneath you. → Take slow, deliberate breaths, count each inhale, and each exhale. → Step outside for a few minutes. Change your surroundings. These won't solve the underlying issue. But they create just enough space to respond instead of react. And then, this is the part we skip most: reach for support. Overwhelm eases fastest when we feel genuinely heard. Carrying it alone only makes it heavier. If everything feels like too much right now, you don't have to hold it by yourself. What helps you find your ground when the wave hits? I share more thoughts like these every week on stress, overthinking, resilience, and finding steadiness in the everyday.
